What type of roof do you have over your head? There are many different types of roofing materials, and the choice isn’t always ours to make, since replacing your roof can be very expensive.
One of the more expensive roofing materials is wood, which is interesting since it also has one of the shorter life-spans. The reason for the premium cost is that wood is a beautiful roofing material that also is made from a renewable resource. Unfortunately, there are quite a few issues that you can experience with wood. If it gets wet you could deal with rot, mold or moss growth. If embers from a wildfire land on it, it could start burning. If WDO (Wood Destroying Organisms) infest it, it could be ruined from the inside out, and woodpeckers could join to make things even worse.
All this shows how important it is to protect your investment if you decide on a wood roof. Keeping it clear of leaves and debris will prevent water buildup. A flame retardant material should be sprayed on the roof regularly to keep it from being a fire hazard, and you should keep an eye out for any possible damage from insects.
