One of the difficult things about moving into a new home is getting things mounted on the walls. Some paintings and mirrors and similar things can be quite heavy, and if you have sheetrock walls, you’re going to have a hard time getting them to stay up without a simple addition – a wall anchor. Sheetrock is not very sturdy, and if you try to put a screw in it, you can probably pull it right out again with your bare hands.

Of course, the sturdiest option is to have things mounted in a stud, but those are not always going to be in the right spot, so wall anchors are your best bet in most cases.

You should make sure of a few things to ensure that the wall anchor works as intended. The anchor should be rated for a weight slightly higher than what you are mounting. The wall should also be in good shape. Sheetrock can deteriorate and become soft, and then it will not hold up to any weight. You should also be careful not to make the hole you drill for the anchor too wide since the anchor needs to be tight fitting to work properly.
